The Kanpur Metro is becoming a new lifeline for the city. Metro service has commenced on Corridor-1, covering 16 kilometers from IIT Kanpur to Kanpur Central Railway Station. Work is progressing rapidly on Corridor-2, with the completion of a significant milestone: the tunnel boring machine 'Gomti' has completed a 780-meter 'down-line... tunnel' from Rawatpur to Kakadev station, using 553 rings for the tunnel walls. 'Gomti' will now construct the tunnel from Kakadev to Double Pulia, accelerating the development of the underground line. The underground section of Corridor-2, which is approximately 4.10 km long, is crucial as it will allow the metro to pass through the city center. The entire length of Corridor-2 is approximately 8.60 km. Previously, a 620-meter 'up-line' and 'down-line' tunnel from Rawatpur to Company Bagh Chauraha was completed in June 2025. Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) is approximately 24 kilometers long, with 16 kilometers of passenger service already operational. Construction of the remaining parts of Corridor-1 and Corridor-2, including the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, is also in progress. This progress is expected to facilitate faster, safer, and more comfortable metro travel for the residents.
