Pune Metro experienced a substantial increase in ridership in August, continuing the upward trend of the previous two months. An average of 213,390 rides per day were recorded across the Purple and Aqua lines, as of Wednesday, according to the Pune Metro website. This surpasses the July average of 192,204... and the June average of 174,702. The average daily ridership had already increased significantly in July compared to the preceding 10 months (September 2024 - June 2025) when the average was 154,652 daily rides. The increase in August (August 1st to August 27th), even before the Ganesh festival, was attributed to factors such as the increased peak-hour train frequency (from seven to six minutes), promotional schemes like student cards, seasonal influx of people (students), and the rainy season. Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director (Administration & Public Relations) at Maha Metro, cited these reasons for the growth.
