The Chheoki Railway Station in Prayagraj is undergoing a major development plan in preparation for the 2031 Kumbh Mela. The railway learned valuable lessons from the heavy crowds during the recent Mahakumbh. The plan is to transform Chheoki into a terminal station, which will be the originating point for major... trains heading towards Mumbai. This will greatly benefit thousands of passengers traveling between Prayagraj and Mumbai. The expansion includes increasing the number of platforms from six to eight. Construction of two new platforms has already been approved, with a proposal for two more submitted to the Railway Board. Furthermore, the third line between Prayagraj and Mumbai has already been sanctioned, which will streamline train operations, especially for special trains during the 2031 Kumbh Mela. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Himanshu Shukla confirmed the comprehensive proposal for the Chheoki terminal has been sent to the Railway Board, with the goal of completing the project before the 2031 Kumbh. The inspection of the electrification work on the 21.77 km Karnalganj-Ghaghara Ghat section of the Gonda-Burdwal rail line (61.72 km) for the third rail line construction was completed on Friday. The inspection was conducted by CRS Pranjiv Saxena of NER Circle. He tested the speed of a special train between Karnalganj... and Ghaghara Ghat stations at a speed of 130 kmph. The trial was successful on all safety standards. Now, trains will also start running on the third line, which will save time. The Railway Safety Commissioner inspected the electrified third new line between Sarayu-Karnalganj rail section with officers via a motor trolley on Friday. During this, he inspected points and crossings, level crossings, and major bridges on the station yard between Sarayu-Karnalganj stations. He tested the functionality and safety of level crossings on the 25,000-volt electrified rail section. He examined the safety work efficiency by asking operational safety-related questions to railway personnel. The completion of the third line from Gonda to Burdwal will reduce travel time on the Gorakhpur to Lucknow route and increase line capacity, which will enable more trains to run on this route.
