The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will briefly suspend train services on a section of the Purple Line this Sunday, June 22nd, for maintenance. Services between MG Road and Byappanahalli stations will be unavailable for two hours, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM. This interruption is to allow for maintenance... activities between Halasuru and Trinity stations, ensuring commuter safety. The population of Salem city is increasing, leading to a rise in individual vehicle ownership and resulting in traffic congestion. Issues include inadequate road widths, lack of traffic management, poorly constructed bus stops, absence of pedestrian infrastructure, and lack of overpasses or underpasses at road junctions. Solutions being considered to address... Salem's traffic problems include metro rail projects, expressways, new flyovers, bypass roads, and ring roads. There is significant expectation for a metro rail project, with many requesting this service in secondary cities after Chennai. The central government's focus on these plans is noteworthy. The Tamil Nadu government commissioned a feasibility study for the Salem Metro Rail project in 2021. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) completed the feasibility report in 2023, with R.V. Associates contracted for the study. The report has been submitted to the Tamil Nadu government for approval. News emerged two months prior (April 2025) that the next steps for the Salem Metro project would begin soon. The public strongly welcomes the Salem Metro Rail project, anticipating reduced traffic congestion, faster travel, and a boost to economic growth. The proposed project involves a 40-kilometer route with two lines. Line 1: Karuppur to Nallikallipatti (18.3 km) with stations including Karuppur, Mamangam, Salem Railway Station, Four Roads, District Collector Office, Old Bus Stand, Caves, Dasanaickenpatti. Line 2: Uthamachozhapuram to Ayothiapattinam (17.16 km) with stations including Uthamachozhapuram, Maniyanur, Ammapettai, Udayapatti. These are the first phase of the project. East Railway is implementing crowd management strategies at Vidhan Nagar Road and Dum Dum stations due to increasing passenger traffic. Vidhan Nagar Road station sees 170,000 passengers daily, while Dum Dum station handles 150,000. Eastern Railway has decided to restrict vendors at Vidhan Nagar Road station. The East Coast Railway is starting land acquisition for a new third railway line between Visakhapatnam and Khurda Road. The doubling of the Guntur-Guntakal railway line is progressing rapidly, bringing good news for the Rayalaseema region. The work, which had been stalled for years due to challenges in the Nallamala forest area, has resumed. The completion of tunnels and bridges will ease train traffic and improve passenger convenience. There's a... possibility of Vande Bharat trains running on this route. Two major bridges are planned near Diguva Metta-Chalama, and land acquisition and forest department clearances are complete. Another bridge will be built after crossing Dorabavi Bridge, with work starting soon. The doubling project, initiated in 2018, is divided into three phases with an estimated cost of ₹3,631 crore.
