153 loco pilots in the Chakradharpur Railway Division protested against their sudden promotion to Goods loco pilots and subsequent transfers. The promotions, allegedly based on a panel, were given despite some pilots being deemed unfit 15-20 years prior. Pilots allege irregularities, claiming that those who didn't offer bribes were... transferred to remote stations like Joruli and Danguaposi. 18 pilots challenged their transfers in court and remain in their original postings. Nine pilots who applied for VRS were denied. The DRM, Tarun Huria, claims the promotions and transfers are justified and legitimate, but pilots argue that the promotions were forced upon them nearing retirement, without fitness tests, and despite a shortage of loco pilots caused by a five-year hiring freeze. They also allege that a second panel was released before the first was finalized. Newly promoted pilots are not being posted at their home stations, creating further resentment.
